I have used Bond books to help my children make solid foundations in year 3, 4 and in year 5 where we used age-appropriate books to begin with. The comprehension books suitable for higher level are particularly useful. (No affiliate partnership)

Competitions are a great way to get your child to be excited about working on a problem and finding a solution. Healthy competitions are good for motivating students to put their best effort in attempting or learning new concepts. It is important that we make the distinction between healthy and unhealthy competition.

I loved reading this write up on healthy versus unhealthy competitions from  developgoodhabits.com. Healthy competition can be motivating, breeds aspiration for achievement and teaches critical thinking and teamwork. These are vital skills that we need as adults and this helps children form these excellent habits early on in life.

We need to end the ‘all must have prizes’ culture and get children playing and enjoying competitive sports from a young age, linking them up with sports clubs so they can pursue their dreams.
